“If your heart is broken, you’ll find GOD right there; if you’re kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath.”
Psalm 34:18 (The Message)
My relationship with my dad always seemed to be all or nothing.
Whenever he picked my brother, sister, and me up for our annual two week visit in the summer, he was all in. For 14 days our relationship was everything I dreamed. But then Dad packed our luggage in the car, drove us home, and kissed us good-bye.
I stood crying in the driveway long after his car disappeared around the corner. I begged him to turn around, take me in his arms, and declare nothing but our relationship mattered more to him.
He never came back.
Every daughter needs to hear her daddy say,
“Baby Girl, you are beautiful.”
“You’re special.”
“Daddy loves you.”
“Daddy will never leave you.”
I traveled a long, lonely road looking for a masculine voice to fill the empty hole in my heart left by my father’s absence.
When I was 28, I encountered the voice of a Father who promised He would never drive away, He would heal my broken heart, and He would restore the lost years of fatherlessness.
Now my greatest joy in life is to introduce other women to the Father who healed me.
